Cara amica, caro amico
sta per partire un appello internazionale per dare poteri straordinari alla Commissione europea per fronteggiare la pandemia del coronavirus e mettere in campo un piano di finanziamenti adeguato per evitare la recessione economica e dare poteri fiscali all’Unione.
L’appello (clicca qui per leggerlo) è promosso dal Prof. Roberto Castaldi della Scuola Superiore di Sant’Anna (vedi sotto l’accompagnatoria), nonché Presidente MFE Toscana.
E’ un momento molto grave per l’UE (e per tutti noi). La possibilità di superarlo sta in un’Europa più forte e unita.

Dear friends,
I write you confidentially on a crucial issue. The EU is collapsing. Each
Member state is taking unilateral and different measures against the
epidemic. Some MSs are going against EU rules and guidelines adopted just
the day before by the Health ministers. Some PMs tell the Commission not to
bother them, that this crisis spells the return of all powers to the
nation-state and that is the end of the EU as we know it. Indeed this is a
defining moment for the EU. And the social perception of the EU will be
shaped for years to come by the answer to Covid-19. With some other academic
friends we have drafted an Appeal asking for the EU to step up and prove it
is a community with a shared destiny. We would like to gather as many
signatures by academics and intellectuals by Saturday, in order to get it
publish all over Europe on Sunday, before the Eurogroup meeting on Monday.
If it approves the European Stability Mechanism reform as it stands it would
give the citizens the idea that the EU only care about money, not their
health.
I attach the Appeal asking you to sign, by replying to me directly (in order
not to bother all members of the group with hopefully hundreds of replies)

but putting me in cc and asking them to reply to me too (so that I can keep

* Il Movimento federalista europeo (Mfe) è stato fondato a Milano il 27 e 28 agosto 1943 da un gruppo di antifascisti, raccolti intorno ad Altiero Spinelli, che elaborarono il Manifesto di Ventotene nel 1941. L’analisi centrale si basa sulla presa di coscienza della crisi dello stato nazionale, ritenuto la causa principale delle guerre mondiali, e sulla convinzione che solo il superamento della sovranità assoluta degli Stati attraverso la creazione della Federazione europea avrebbe assicurato la pace in Europa.
